I am an Associate Professor in the Computer Science Department at Southern Connecticut State University. My research interest is in bioinformatics. I work on developing algorithms to analyze next-generation sequencing data. My research addresses various interrelated problems, including RNA transcriptome reconstruction, allele specific isoform expression estimation, gene differential expression and cancer specific variant identification and neo-epitope prediction. Tackling each of these problems requires employing a combination of computational approaches such as machine learning, grammatical modeling, statistical analysis, dynamic programming and expectation maximization algorithms.

Before joining Southern Connecticut State University, I worked as an Assistant Professor in Residence at the Computer Science Department in the University of Connecticut and a Visiting Assistant Professor at the Computer Science Department in Smith College.

I live with my husband and three sons in Bloomfield, Connecticut. I've been living in Connecticut for 20 years, and I immensely enjoy the changing scenery across the seasons in New England (check my photo gallery).

My lab has available research positions for highly motivated graduate and undergraduate students. If interested to learn more, email your CV to alseesis1 at southernct dot edu
